Between Doctrine and Uncertainty: Contemporary Perspectives on Military Leadership and Strategic Thinking; [Entre la doctrina y la incertidumbre: perspectivas contemporáneas sobre el liderazgo militar y el pensamiento estratégico]
Abstract
This article introduces a new issue of the Revista Científica General José María Córdova devoted to military leadership and strategic thinking. Drawing on classical and contemporary strategic theory, from Clausewitz to Freedman, Cohen, and Kahneman, the issue examines how leaders navigate uncertainty, friction, and complexity in twenty-first-century security environments. The article's span proxy warfare and regional conflicts, the evolution of strategic studies as a disciplinary field, cognitive warfare and disinformation, artificial intelligence and C3I systems, human security and biodiversity conservation, cognitive biases in military decision-making, geoeconomics as a tool of statecraft, and de facto cooperation in the post-Soviet space. Together, they argue that effective military leadership demands not only tactical proficiency but also the intellectual, moral, and organizational capacity to interpret complex environments and make ethically grounded strategic decisions.
